The growth of the tourism numbers has surpassed what we had forecast.
Tourism Fiji Chairman Patrick Wong said with this year tourist visitor numbers stand at 533,000 which is more than they had expected and they are targeting 600,000 visitors next year.
Wong said they are optimistic that they can achieve this target especially with the increase in their budget allocation for 2009.
He added although there has been a lot of negativity caste over Fiji and with the travel advisory issued by the New Zealand government, tourist numbers continue to grow especially from New Zealand.
The New Zealand government is now advising its citizens that there is some risk to their security in Fiji and for them to take caution following the expulsion of the acting High Commissioner Caroline McDonald.
The revised travel advisory said the expulsion could lead to increased tensions and New Zealanders in Fiji are advised to exercise particular caution and maintain a low profile.
