Spain striker Fernando Torres has made a last-ditch plea to coach Del Bosque to start him in tomorrow’s World Cup final against Netherlands.

The Liverpool striker, and goal-scoring hero of Spain's Euro 2008 victory, fears he will miss the match after being dropped for the semi-final victory over Germany because of concerns over his form and fitness.

A Spanish source said Fernando went to see Del Bosque because he fears he will be left out.

He told Del Bosque he is desperate to play and that he won't let him down.

This is the first FIFA World Cup for Spain and stats are against them as the team has only managed to score only seven goals so far in the Tournament and have even lost their first opening game of the FIFA World Cup to Switzerland.

Meanwhile, Netherlands under the leadership of coach Bert Van Marwijk have not lost in a total of 25 games since September 2008.

Marwijk speaking through an interpreter said that the team has only one aim.
