All the top seeds came through Day One of the 2011 Hong Kong 7s unscathed after the first round of pool games.

John Grant scored the first try of the tournament as Australia beat Zimbabwe 42 0 in the opening match before South Africa defeated Spain 33 5.

Fiji’s Nikola Matawalu earlier helped the side beat Malaysia with the first hat-trick of the three day event, defending champion Samoa proved too strong for Hong Kong debutants Mexico and there were also wins for current Series leaders England and New Zealand over China and Korea.

With 24 teams in the draw, split across six pools, only the winner in each group will be guaranteed a place in the Cup quarterfinals on Day Three.

They will be joined in the last eight by the two best runners up.

Meanwhile, today Fiji’s second pool game is against Russia at 5.26pm before the last pool game against Kenya at 9.50pm.
