The Vodafone Fiji 7s team will have to remain as one of the top four side in the IRB World 7s Series standing in order to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

This comes after the International Rugby Board announced that only the top four teams in the 2014 and 2015 IRB men's and women's world series standings will qualify.

Sevens makes its Olympic debut at the Games in Rio de Janeiro, with International Rugby Board confirming that there will be 12 teams competing in the men's and women's competitions

Host nation Brazil will automatically be in both competitions while the IRB has ratified the qualification process for all other nations.

However IRB said if any of the teams fall short in the series, they could then be one of the six nations to qualify through regional tournaments held next year while the 12th and final spot will be determined at a 16 nation world playoff tournament held in the first half of 2016.
