The Tonga Rugby Union stands firm on the Pacific Islands Rugby Alliance following Samoa's decision to quit PIRA last week.

TRU Acting CEO Mark Hojelson said that Fiji and Tonga can still make the Pacific Islanders concept a success without Samoa.

Hojelson said it would take time to bear fruits from the Pacific Islanders team and they will meet with their counterparts in Fiji.

Meanwhile, Fiji Rugby Union Acting CEO Keni Dakuidreketi said he is surprised Samoa made the decision as the three Unions have just been distributed with $100,000 each from last years Islander's tour.
