Tonga made a successful start to their World Cup beating USA 25-15 to give others in Pool A food for thought.

With Tonga leading 13-3 at half-time, the main difference between the two teams was speed to the breakdown, but the Islanders may look back on the fumbles that cost them a host of try scoring opportunities.

The Sea Eagles had flown out of the blocks and within a mere 80 seconds scored their first try through loose forward Finau Maka.

Tonga was unlucky not to score a bonus point and now will look forward to their second game against Samoa on Monday at 2am.

Meanwhile, the South African rugby team management is to appeal against what they termed a shocking four match suspension handed down to flanker Schalk Burger.

The ban includes the vital game against England on Saturday morning. Burger was cited for a dangerous tackle on Samoan scrum-half Junior Polu in the 59-7 win in their opening pool match at the weekend.

The flanker maintained he was contesting the ball in the air but the disciplinary committee handed him down with a four match ban. South Africa will take on England on Saturday at 7am.
