Toga granted bail
Toga's lawyer made an application for bail in Court this morning and Judge Justice Inoke Sosefo, was reluctant to grant him bail and wanted the matter to be transferred to Suva High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar.
Justice Sosefo then asked FICAC lawyer Aca Rayawa if he had any objections to bail and Rayawa told the court that they had no grounds to hold the accused following which Toga was granted bail on strict conditions.
He has been ordered not to leave the country, to surrender his travel documents, he was ordered not to interfere with the witnesses or speak to any immigration officer and to refrain from going to the airport. The case has been adjourned till 10th September.
Toga is charged with one count of bribery under the FICAC bribery promulgation, and it is alleged that Toga allegedly accepted $500 as well as a new Nokia mobile phone from a Stephen Mallerich, for uplifting the travel history of Mohammad Fanam Ali from the Immigration Department.
