Blues fullback Isaia Toeava is relishing the freedom to run at full pace after mid-season surgery last year, something that had troubled him for some time.

The All Blacks’ utility has been one of the key contributors for the Blues and has made an impact running with the ball at intense speed.

Fullback is not necessarily his position of choice, but the full back-line complement was one that offered plenty of attacking flair from Benson Stanley, Luke McAlister, Joe Rokocoko and Toeava, and it was vital to keep performing because there was a lot of cover in the squad and players were pushing for places.

The Blues meet the Waratahs in Auckland at 7:35pm on Saturday.

On Friday night at 7:35pm the Chiefs meet the Crusaders and at 9:40pm the Rebels meet the Highlanders.
