The Health Ministry has started consultations with various stakeholders on the review of the Tobacco Control Act.

Officer in charge Tobacco Control Ifereimi Corerega said the aim is to review the provisions of the Act which was established in 1998, identified key issues and provide recommendations for the amendment of the Act.

Corerega added that the review is necessary as Fiji has become the third developing nation to sign and ratify the Framework Convention on the Tobacco Control in October 2003.
