To accept or not to accept.

A number of organizations are now going around the country campaigning for or against the draft People's Charter.

Fijivillage had received confirmation that apart from the National Council for Building a Better Fiji (NCBBF) teams which are going to different parts of the country to consult with the people and then asking them to fill in a response form, the Methodist Church of Fiji, the SDL Party, the Fiji Labour Party and the United People's Party will also be going around the country to talk to the people about the draft Charter.

Fijivillage had been informed that the Methodist Church of Fiji executives in the different church circuits have started telling their congregation about the church's stand against the Charter and are asking members to sign a form which will be taken up to President Ratu Josefa Iloilo within the next few weeks.

Senior police officers who are members of the Methodist Church met with the executives of the Methodist Church yesterday about the matter telling the church executives not to direct church members to reject the Charter but let the people decide for themselves.

The church executives were supposed to meet last night to discuss the issue. However, when contacted this morning, Church General Secretary Reverend Tuikilakila Waqairatu said it was a closed door meeting.

He then said that the church executives have not met as yet to decide on what the police officers have said.

The Fiji Labour Party (FLP) has started its own consultations.

FLP Leader Mahendra Chaudhry said the interim government sponsored consultations may not be seen to be independent so they will find out from the people on what they accept or reject in the draft Charter.
