Time will solve 7s problem
Those are the words of Digicel Fiji Sevens coach Etuate Waqa after arriving home today from the NZ and USA Sevens.
Waqa said rugby fans need to know that the talent in the players will only grow in strength when they are given time to play together as a team in a structured game plan.
He believes that players like Lepani Botia, Nemani Nagusa and Waisea Nayacalevu have shown a lot of improvement in their game even though it was their first trip.
Waqa added that the defensive problem which stood out like a sore thumb in the loss to NZ in the final in Wellington and the close 14-12 defeat to Samoa in Las Vegas is something he had spent time looking at with the players during their trip.
Known as one of the most aggressive players in his days in the rugby union and rugby league code, Waqa said that coaches at club and provincial level have a lot of input in the way a player plays his game before he is selected into the national side.
The Fiji Sevens team’s next assignment in the IRB Sevens series will be Hong Kong and Japan.
