The Minister for Primary Industries Joketani Cokanasiga has called on timber merchants in the Northern division to be honest with their trade.

The call comes after villagers and farmers complained to the Minister during his visit stating that loggers have totally disregarded the other road users and cart their logs during wet weather.

In a statement, Cokanasiga said night carting of log should not be entertained as they pose great danger to other road users. He adds it is only imperative that loggers are aware of the laws governing the timber industry and take into consideration the plight of locals who are also road users and stop carting during rainy condition.

Cokanasiga said the Conservator of Forests has assured him that the matter should be stopped. The concerns were focused on the roads along Vaturova, Koroalau and Natewa Peninsula Coastal road.
