Fijian born and Chiefs winger Patrick Osborne and Asaeli Tikorotuma grabbed a try each to help the Chiefs began their Super Rugby title defence in winning fashion last night outlasting the Highlanders 41-27 in a see sawing match in Dunedin.

Osborne, in his first match for the Chiefs opened the second half with a try while Tikorotuma in the 59th minute of play sliced through the defence to score.

The visitors also left with a bonus point, two of their four tries coming through the twinkle toes of inexperience centre Tim Nanai Williams.

Meanwhile, in other matches, the ACT Brumbies beat the Melbourne Rebels with a clinical 30-13 win in Melbourne while the six penalties from Morne Steyn and a controversial try by Chiliboy Ralepelle handed the Bulls a 25-17 win over the Stormers.

At 6.35pm today the Hurricanes meet the Blues while the Reds host the Waratahs at 8.40 tonight.

Tomorrow the Cheetahs play the Sharks at 3.05am before the Kings take on the Force at 5.10am.
