The Fiji Scouts Association is mourning the loss of a well respected public figure Jerry Tikaram who passed away peacefully on Saturday at his home.

Tikaram was the Chief Commissioner of the Fiji Scouts Association for many years and was later elevated to Deputy Chief Scout.

Save the Children Fiji Chief Executive Officer, Chandra Shekhar who has known Tikaram for more than forty years said Tikaram will always be remembered by fellow scouts.

He represented Fiji at all scouting forums at his own cost and sacrificed his leisure time to serve scouts in Fiji and the region.

In his capacity as Deputy Chief Scout, he also acted as an advisor to the Chief Scout in Fiji who used to be the Governor General or the President of the country.

Tikaram was also the recipient of the highest award the "Bar to Silver Tanoa" awarded by the President.

Tikaram was also involved with a number of Charitable organisations and set on the board of Home of Compassion, Father Law Home and St Vincent De Paul.

Tikaram's family was one of the pioneering families in the bus industry, running Lami Bus Service and also a shop called Nukuwatu in Suvavou Village in Lami.

Tikaram was also the second mayor of Lami Town Council and served for three terms and was also heavily involved in declaring Lami a town.

The Tikaram Park in Lami is also named after the Tikaram family.

He will be laid to rest on Saturday at the Old Suva Cemetery.

He leaves behind his wife, six children and five grandchildren.

He was 80 years old.
