New Zealand’s road to win the 7s rugby Olympic gold has already begun.

Coach Gordon Tietjens has re-signed with the New Zealand Rugby Union for four years.

Tietjens will coach the first New Zealand sevens team to compete at the Olympics in Rio 2016.

NZRU chief executive Steve Tew announced Tietjens’ recommitment today and said to have the “best sevens coach of all time” committed to New Zealand’s first Olympic sevens campaign is a huge coup.

Tietjens is in his 19th year as the coach of the New Zealand sevens team and has led the Kiwis to nine World Series titles and four successive Commonwealth Games gold medals.
