New Zealand 7s coach Gordon Tietjens said while it’s disappointing to once again fall short at home, the nature of the World 7s Series means their winning run had to come to an end eventually.
Samoa scored three second half tries to stun New Zealand 24-14 in the Cup semifinals, before going on to lose the finals to island neighbors Fiji.
Gordon Tietjens said they were far too error-prone against a Samoan side that made them pay for their mistakes.
Looking at the overall standings after the New Zealand 7s, New Zealand is first on 64 points, second is Fiji on 60, third is Samoa on 46 and fourth is England on 44.
Defending IRB 2008/2009 Series, South Africa is on 7th place with 24 points.
All the teams will leave for the USA 7s in Las Vegas tomorrow.
