The Lightning Bolt strikes again.

Jamaican sprint sensation Usain Bolt strongly confirmed his status as the greatest sprinter in history as he retained his Olympic 100metres title in style.

Bolt who was doubted by many after a season of defeat and injury, ran the second-fastest time ever to beat his training partner Yohan Blake into silver and American Justin Gatlin into bronze.

Bolt’s 9.63 seconds, just 0.05 seconds slower than his own unbelievable world record, was a new Olympic best.

Bolt said he came with a mission.


The race also saw seven men went under 10 seconds, with only the injured Asafa Powell failing to break that mark. 

Meanwhile, a man was arrested after a bottle was thrown on to the track seconds before the start of the men’s 100m final.

Looking at the medal tally, China is leading with 30 gold, 17 silver and 14 bronze, USA is second with 28 gold,14 silver and 18 bronze while Great Britain is third with 16 gold ,11 silver and 10 bronze.
