Thousands without water
Water Supply Department spokesperson Maika Nagalu said that the Tamavua Treatment Plant supplies water to residents all the way from Delainavesi, Toorak, Samabula and even Nabua, and this coupled with the fact that a main water pipe near the Delainavesi Police Post burst yesterday, water will be out.
The burst water main in Delainavesi, just past the Delainavesi Police Post, has resulted in low pressure and in some places no water supply at all in the greater parts of Suva.
Nagalu said at the moment they are using three water pumps at the Waimanu Pumping Station to supply the greater Suva area as the water level is very low.
However, since the burst main occurred, there has been low pressure and until this problem is fixed, residents will continue to face water problems.
A timeline until tomorrow morning has been given, with the department calling on residents to use whatever water they have stored.
When asked whether water trucks will be out supplying affected areas, Nagalu said that at the moment two water trucks are servicing residents in Delainavesi and Qauia in Lami with the other places to be decided by their engineers if the situation changes.
The burst main is expected to be fixed this evening, water supply is expected to normalize tomorrow.
