People of all races together in one place to welcome the year 2008 at the Communications Fiji Ltd Street Party.
Around 10 to 15 thousand people were present at the CFL Street Party last night with lots of music, dance and radio personalities.

Interim PM stated that we, in Fiji are now beginning to think outside the box. We are now questioning the traditional ways of looking at our problems, of solving them and providing long term solutions which is a major accomplishment.
Commodore Frank Bainimarama stating as part of his New Years message, that Fiji is truly standing at the start of a new dawn adding that the people of Fiji have the potential and the ability to take it to another level.
Bainimarama said that this level may not have been thought of before, because of unscrupulous leaders and politicians who have never thought of the nation of Fiji but only themselves and their political ambitions.
The Interim Minister states that progress in Fiji can only come from the people of Fiji adding that the people of Fiji must stand united and move as one group with one goal in mind - and that is progress in all areas of life.
He said that we must be allowed to progress the People's Charter, without hindrance from within or outside Fiji and with the participation of all.
Bainimarama adds that the people of Fiji must resolve to work together as a nation, to celebrate our diversity to begin afresh and build a better Fiji in 2008.
The SDL party National Director said 2007 was a year where democracy was destroyed. He said as everyone looks forward to 2008, 2007 is a year that is best forgotten.
Peceli Kinivuwai said they had witnessed the continuous violation of human rights and deaths of innocent civilians.
Kiniwuvai said 2007 was also a time where many people lost their jobs.
Interim Finance Minister states that Fiji never really had democracy.
Mahendra Chaudhry has strongly hit out at Academics and Politicians who have continually pressured the Interim Government to have democracy in the country.
Chaudhry said that Fiji never had democracy in the past even though it had an elected Government in power.
Chaudhry adds that he also opposes the electoral system which is in the 1997 constitution because it is not based on democratic principles.
Chaudhry stresses that the Peoples Charter for Change should be accepted and provisions of the Charter should be embodied in the constitution.
The Fiji Women's Crisis Centre Coordinator stated that 2007 saw, to the later part of the year, an increase in the number of rape cases in Fiji and there is the hope that this will not be the case for 2008.
Shameema Ali adds that the Centre will be doing alot more work on the ground to try and change the mentality of young men with regards to women and rape.
Ali hopes that this year will be a more peaceful one than the last of the people of Fiji.
