Thousands of people are expected to fill up the main streets of Wellington to witness the 16 teams that will be marching through the New Zealand 7's parade at this hour.

Speaking from Wellington this morning, Vodafone Fiji 7's coach Ben Ryan said the atmosphere has been overwhelming after seeing the excitements from the local fans and the high level of preparations shown by the different teams.

Ryan added the players are all excited to play the first game against Portugal before they set their focus on Wales and Australia.

This year's tournament is the 16th edition of the sevens in Wellington after it was first hosted in the capital in 2000.

The tournament has since become the city's largest sporting event and contributes more than $6 million to the local economy each year.

The New Zealand 7's kicks off tomorrow with Fiji taking on Portugal at 12.03pm, face Wales at 2.58pm before taking on Australia at 5.54pm in their last pool game.

The Cup quarterfinals will start at 12.28pm Saturday, the Cup semi finals will be at 4.12pm while the Cup final kicks off at 7.55pm Saturday.
