More than a thousand people from all walks of life are expected to be part of the Fiji Day celebrations at Subrail Park this morning.

Provincial Administrator Macuata, Joseva Rokonai said they had formed a committee to organize the celebrations as people of Labasa do not get opportunities to celebrate such occasions often.

Rokonai said they have spent a lot of time on preparations and the excitement among the people is building.


More than 500 students from different schools in the North will be a part of the march from Y-corner to Subrail Park starting at 8.30am.

Meanwhile, Fiji Day celebrations will also be held at Churchill Park from this morning with a march procession led by Fiji National University and school bands through the Lautoka City.

Tomorrow, the main centre Suva will begin its celebrations with a march from the Flea Market to Albert Park, where the Fiji Military Forces will perform an exhibition including a military parade which will be inspected by the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau followed by a 21 gun salute signifying the momentous occasion.
  
In Levuka tomorrow, Minister for Primary Industries and Acting Minister for Defence and National Security Joketani Cokanasiga will be accorded a traditional iTaukei ceremony of welcome before entertainment kicks off in the Ovalau style.
 
We encourage people to fly a flag for Fiji as we celebrate the 42nd year of our independence. 

People are also encouraged to wear blue today as many workplaces are also organizing their Fiji Day celebrations today due to the public holiday tomorrow.
