Government vehicles are for Official use only.

The Finance Permanent Secretary Peceli Vocea has this morning clarified they are continuing with the investigation and discipline of civil servants who are found to be misusing government official cars.

In October last year, cabinet had approved a submission by the interim government to get a new fleet of cars as 540 of their 1,800 vehicles were old or past their use on the road.

With cabinet approval, these cars were to be leased for government use, incurring a huge capital outlay.

To ensure proper use of the cars, the Finance Ministry set up a Vehicle Control Unit which looks into any complaints from members of the public if see civil servants misusing Government cars.

Vocea has called on the public to call 3222121 or 3222113 between 8am to 4.30pm to lodge any complaint which would then see an investigation carried out.
