The Consumer Council of Fiji's Chief Executive Officer said there is a need for a thorough inspection at the Border Controls to ensure that safe products enter into the country.
Premila Kumar said globally there are concerns raised regarding some products made in China.
She said that recently concerns were raised that a number of products from China were not safe either for consumption, for example toothpaste, or for children's use like toys with led.
She has welcomed the steps taken by the Chinese government on their initiative to ensure that their food and product is safe and fair for consumers.
The Chinese government are tightening up their controls and testing mechanisms before export out of the country.
