Fiji Labour Party Leader, Mahendra Chaudhry said there is no need to compare convictions and sentences of people when questioned on why he had raised the conviction and sentence of his own former party senator and branch President Bijai Prasad.
Chaudhry said he only raised the issue about Prasad’s conviction and sentencing for larceny after Prasad made some allegations against Chaudhry.
Prasad who stepped down from the proposed FijiFirst Vice President’s post yesterday due to non disclosure of his conviction and sentencing to the proposed party, said it is ironic that Chaudhry who has been convicted and sentenced twice, is raising issues about Prasad's conviction.
According to our search, Chaudhry was convicted for a hit and run accident in 1978 which resulted in the death of a woman while the second conviction is relating to the breach of the Exchange Control Act charge earlier this month.
Meanwhile Prasad said Chaudhry had no problems with him all the years when Prasad was the Nadi branch President for the FLP and Chaudhry also nominated Prasad to be a senator after the 2006 elections.
