Think before criticizing-Dutta
Employers' representative on the FNPF board James Dutta said people need to realize that the aim is to ensure that members have sufficient funds in their accounts when they retire.
Dutta is questioning the unions and other organizations why they are encouraging people to withdraw from the FNPF.
Dutta said the FNPF board will think of the best interest of the members in the long term, and not be deterred by the criticisms which have started.
The criticisms have reached the level that the Consumer Council is even claiming that the government now must be seen to have alternative measures in place to assist the members who would no longer be able to rely on their FNPF funds for various activities including housing, education and medical.
However, FNPF has confirmed that this assistance has not ceased.
Meanwhile, Consumer Council CEO Premila Kumar is calling on the FNPF to think about low income earners who usually turn to them for funding for education and housing for their loved ones.
Kumar said while they agree with the call from FNPF members to save for their retirement, with the new policies put in place the needy in our society have nowhere else to go for financial help for their close relatives.
