Think twice smokers!

The Ministry of Health's Tobacco control enforcement unit is strengthening its commitment as custodian of the Tobacco control act to haul into court those who break the law by lighting up in "No Smoking Zones.

Health Permanent Secretary Dr. Lepani Waqatakirewa said part of their reinforced commitment is the affirmation this week of 7 new tobacco control enforcement officers who have undergone training and a week's programme to start looking out for those who smoke in areas forbidden under the act.

Waqatakirewa said officers would now start their law enforcement work at designated No smoking places and charge anyone who is found breaking the law.

He said the law will also be enforced on drivers and passengers who smoke in public transports.
