Thieves are now employing new tactics to break into parked vehicles in busy parking lots.

Over the past three weeks a number of vehicles have been broken into and valuable items stolen.

The thieves are suspected to be moving around in another vehicle and scanning the streets for vehicles which have valuables items left inside by the owners.

One such incident has been caught on a CCTV camera in central Suva.

The video showed that a taxi pulled up next to a parked vehicle and one of the assailants sitting in the back seat was seen punching a small hole in the back seat window.

Using the vehicle as a cover, another thief quickly jumped into the parked vehicle.

All this happened within seconds and even pedestrians passing by were not aware of what was going on.

Fijivillage spoke to a police officer who attended to such an incident earlier this week who said that they suspect that one group is responsible for such break-ins but they have not been able to get a clear view of their faces or the registration of the taxi which they are alleged to be using.

Police Spokesperson Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri is calling for information to apprehend these thieves.

Meanwhile, Police are calling on people to refrain from receiving stolen properties.

This call comes in light after reports that police have received lots of cases from the greater Suva areas on stolen laptops.

Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said their officers are recovering stolen laptops but there is no evidence at all for owners or people whose laptop have been stolen.

Sokomuri said people should not buy stolen items.
