There’s no real connection: Tevi
Church General Secretary Feiloakitau Tevi said there is no real connection between theology and Human Rights and with Ausaid financial assistance, the church will be providing a training workshop which will enable church leaders to promote awareness and knowledge in their communities of issues of Human Rights, good governance and the rule of law.
Last week, the Australian government granted $177,290 to the pacific conference of churches for training programs that will enhance community knowledge of human rights.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Humans Rights said Fiji is not perfect and is working at improving its long term human rights image.
Dr Shaista Shameem made the comments in response to the US Department of State 2008 Human Rights report on Fiji, saying the interim government is clearly working within the guidelines of the Declaration of Human Rights especially after it had been mandated by the President.
Dr Shameem said the report fails to highlight the advances being made to improve human rights.
