Consumers, wholesalers and retailers will now have to wait until this Thursday to find out whether there will be any further changes to the prices of the basic food items that came under the Price Control Order from last Saturday.

Wholesalers and retailers now have until tomorrow to show their books to the Commerce Commission on the cost in getting the price control items on the shelves.

This further consultation process is occurring after many retailers removed goods from the shelves on Saturday when the prices were to be lowered according to the order from the Commission.

Commerce Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the commission will now review the prices earlier set but he said the traders have to show their books which was not done by them previously.

He said traders need to be honest and reveal the items in stock and the wholesale prices they bought the items for, before further determinations can be made.
