This is how Lote Tuqiri found out he was on the verge of creating Australian sporting history yesterday.

It was a text message from Australian coach Tim Sheens telling his Wests Tigers winger he had been drafted into the Kangaroos Four Nations squad to replace injured Jarryd Hayne.

By playing a Test in this series, Tuqiri would become the first player ever to represent his country as a Kangaroo, a Wallaby and then a Kangaroo again.

And there is more history connected with this story.

With his last Test back in 2002, Tuqiri is the first player in 90 years to reclaim an Australian jumper after an eight-year absence.

And it was Sheens, Tuqiri’s coach at Wests Tigers, who told the star winger he was in the Kangaroos squad again.
