The terminated members of the Great Council of Chiefs are seeking the courts leave to apply for an injunction and stay on the GCC Composition Regulations which sees the appointment of Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama as Chairman of a new look GCC.
Kitione Vuataki and Savenaca Komaisavai appeared in chambers before Judge Justice Jiten Singh along with counsel for the state Adish Narayan.
After making submissions behind closed doors for more than an hour, Komaisavai said that they had highlighted that there cannot be a power which allows the Minister to appoint members of the GCC as appointments should also be made through nominations and elections.
However, Representing Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarma and the President, Adish Narayan said they had called on the Judge to not allow these proceedings to go ahead as it is now too late and things have moved on.
Judge Singh will make his ruling on the leave application on April 16th.
