The term for all municipal councils has been extended for another three months after the interim cabinet approved the interim Minister for Local Government Filipe Bole's submission for an extension.
Bole said the extension is necessary to accommodate Cabinet's earlier decision to extend the term of the Local Government Review/Reform Committee by another month up to 30th November this year with the final report to be submitted to Cabinet by January 2009.
Bole said that after the expiry of the term of all municipal councils, administrators will be approached to perform the functions of the municipal councils during the transition period which will see the adoption of the recommendations of the Local Governance Review Committee.
