A tenders Board is expected to be set up soon to scrutinise tenders handed in for the proposed setting up of a casino in the country by the government.
Tourism and Trade Minister Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum confirmed that this following the recent expressions of interest that appeared in the Economist - a British owned weekly news and international affairs publication.
In the tender, the government invites interest for the development and operation of its first Casino from internationally successful full-casino developers/operators that are reputable.
Sayed-Khaiyum says the obvious economic benefits from such development will be job creation as well as additional revenue for the government.
He stresses gambling is not new to Fiji and Government will ensure that the casino development does not erode the strengths of Fiji's tourism brand.
The expression of interest submissions close on the 30th of November.
