The television war is definitely underway in the country with new players coming into the market and an announcement today by free to air broadcaster, MAI TV that it would venture into a 24 hour Hindi free to air channel next year.

CEO Richard Broadbridge said they have applied to the Department of Communications for new frequency on the UHF platform to launch its new service and are now awaiting a formal reply.

MAI TV said it has lined up world class content and local programmes to fill a Hindi schedule with Suva to have this new service within 6 months of the issuance of its new frequency.

Broadbridge said it is now over to the powers that be to grant them a temporary frequency so that they can get the project off the ground.
