The Deadline given to operators for the termination of telephone and mobile services for unregistered customers has been extended to November 8th.

In a public notice, Attorney General and Minister for Communications Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum warned that any service provider who by this date fails to cancel telephone communications services is liable to be convicted to a maximum fine of $200,000.

This applies for land or mobile numbers which have not been registered under the provisions of the Decree and the service provider shall be guilty of an offence.

The earlier deadline for registrations had lapsed last week and one of the operators, TFL had started to terminate serivice of unregistered customers.

This is the second time the deadline has been extended by the government.

Meanwhile, Vodafone Fiji has confirmed that they have managed to register 80% of their customers so far.

Managing Director, Aslam Khan said the 20% of their customers yet to register are in the outer islands and rural areas.

Khan added registering children is also an issue as they need and photo Identification card of each customer.
