Outgoing Police Commissioner Commodore Esala Teleni has reminded members of the Disciplined Forces that they must remain effective and relevant as human security is becoming more and more important today.
During a farewell ceremony at the Police Headquarters yesterday, Teleni said it is very important that leaders must understand the logistics of security issues.
Teleni said National Security is maintaining sovereignty, territorial, border integrity, preserving Fiji's cohesiveness and protecting Fiji's interest home and abroad.
He added that as security personnel they must honor security principles in developing self reliance and relevant security capabilities.
The outgoing Commissioner said that police must not only focus on criminals but also on security in the region.
He said the change in leadership culture will bring about the right equipment and systems therefore leaders must allow time to review themselves.
Following Commodore Esala Teleni's resignation from the post of Police Commissioner, Fijivillage has received confirmation that Commodore Teleni will not be returning to the military or the navy.
This was confirmed by Permanent Secretary for Information, Sharon Smith-Johns.
Smith Johns has also told Radio NZ that it was Commodore Teleni's personal decision to leave the Police Force.
Career police officer, Joeli Baleilevuka has been appointed as the Acting Commissioner of Police following Teleni's resignation.
