The Fiji Human Rights Commission said the Police Commissioner's response to his senior officers going to the media are justified as procedures were not followed.
Chairperson Dr Shaista Shameem said if people feel their rights are being violated in the workforce, there are organisations like the Commission, which a person can take his or her grievances to, and not the media.
Shameem said in every organisation there are mechanisms in place to solve problems that arise.
Shameem said according to the Constitutional Provisions on unfair discrimination on the basis of race, Teleni's comments, which she had read in the media, are not racist.
She said Teleni's warning to police officers that they risk losing their jobs if they go to the press with their grievances without following the right channels of complaint first, is a warning that all public officials give to their employees in order to impose reasonable restrictions, as holders of a public office, in order to secure their impartial and confidential service.
