Police Commissioner Esala Teleni has assigned a team of officers to come up with a detailed report on how 2 kilograms of cocaine was smuggled into the country.
As police continue to question a 46 year old Mexican woman who was allegedly found with the drugs, Teleni told Village News that police are now liaising with all border control agencies to identify why the drugs were not detected.
Teleni said he has directed that immediate action be taken to rectify the problem.
The woman, who is believed to have arrived in the country on Tuesday, was arrested after a raid at a Nadi hotel while police also arrested a Columbian national, for other alleged criminal activities.
Director CID Waisea Vakamocea said they will not reveal at this stage whether the arrests are connected and how the two arrived in the country.
He said further developments are expected today.
