Despite the court stay order issued on the implementation of the retirement age at 55 years for civil servants, several senior Police officers will still have to be on leave until the Police Commissioner decides on whether they will be called back into the force.
Commodore Esala Teleni said he has sent all the officers who are over 55 years of age on leave as the stay does not cover the police force, military and the Prison Department.
It is not known at this stage how many officers have been told to go on leave and how many senior officers may be employed on a contract basis as questions faxed to Director Police Operations, SSP Waisea Tabakau remain unanswered.
