Talks between the Interim Government and the Amalgamated Telecom Holdings will start in the Western Division this Friday to have discussions on the removal of the exclusive telecommunications license held by Telecom Fiji, Vodafone Fiji and FINTEL.

The Telecommunication Bill which has already been promulgated by the Interim Government has opened the market which will allow new investors to operate in the telecommunications sector.

Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Communication, Amena Yauvoli had earlier confirmed the compensation issue will have to be discussed as the Interim Government had made it clear that some sort of agreement has to be reached on the compensation issue.

Meanwhile, ATH Chief Executive Tomasi Vakatora has confirmed that a meeting would take place in the west this weekend however he said they are bound by protocols for mediations that they have signed to maintain confidentiality on the matter and thus will not be able to comment more on the negotiations.
