As telecom operators work out their new retail prices, it is now expected that it will become cheaper to call from a mobile phone, either Vodafone or Digicel, to a landline.
Telecom Fiji Limited Acting CEO Sakiasi Seru said this puts TFL in a very difficult position as the only way TFL can gain from the Commerce Commission decision is if there is increased calls from a mobile phone to their fixed lines.
Seru adds they will have to ensure that any decision by TFL to reduce its rates is commercially viable for the company.
According to TFL, it may take up to 12 months before their customers can notice any reduction in call rates from landline to mobile lines and another two years before the full effects and intentions of the Commerce Commission decision is passed on to consumers.
