Fiji women’s coaching director Chris Cracknell is confident that the Telecom Fijiana will have a different result at the Sao Paulo 7s this weekend.
Emerging from the shadow of the all‑conquering men’s team is a daunting prospect for the Telecom Fijiana team but they are starting to turn heads in their own right under the watchful eyes of Cracknell.
Playing ‘heads up’ rugby is in the DNA of Fiji’s players regardless of gender, that much was evident from the opening round of the 2015‑16 HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series in Dubai last December when Litia Naiwato scored a sensational try for Fijiana against USA.
Unbeaten in pool play in Dubai, the Fijiana eventually lost in the Plate semi‑finals after defeats to France and New Zealand ended their interest in the Cup competition.
The Fijiana will need to hit the ground running at Sao Paulo this Sunday and next Monday as they face Dubai winners Australia, Canada and Ireland in Pool A.
