The Ministry of Education is gravely concerned with the teenage pregnancy trend where young teenage girls are falling pregnant over the school holidays and during the secondary and tertiary institution meets.

The ministry highlighted events such as the Hibiscus Festival, Coca Cola Games and inter-tertiary sports which allows the teenagers to fall into the trap.

Apart from girls falling pregnant, there was a marked increase in sexually transmitted infections contracted at the time.

Meanwhile, the ministry is calling on parents, guardians, caregivers and teachers to be diligent and more involved with their teenage children's activities, interests and their time.

Teenagers need to be educated on issues related to premature and premarital sex.
