Teenage pregnancies reported at the country's largest hospital, the Colonial War Memorial Hospital is increasing at an alarming rate.

The latest statistics shows reports of teenage pregnancy for the first four months of this year was 310 compared to 183 cases for the same period last year.

The youngest case received by the hospital was a 14 year old girl.

According to Mereani Waqanicakau of the maternity unit at the CWM Hospital, the increase may be due to the increase in the population and the child bearing age group.

She adds broken families and those who live with guardians are also found to be amongst those who are faced with unplanned pregnancies.
