Fiji Electricity Authority has restored power in more than 60% of the areas in the Central division and 90% of the areas in the Western Division.

FEA's Acting Chief Executive Officer, Sunil De Silva said technicians are working on the broken lines and 90% of the Central Division will have power by the end of the day.

He said many power lines in the Central Division were damaged due to fallen trees and technicians are working on the problems.

He said the two power lines feeding the Western and Central divisions are currently down in the hills and technicians can only get to the lines via Helicopter which is too risky at the moment as it is too cloudy. According to De Silva, it is still raining in Lautoka and Nadi and due to the strong winds, it is difficult to work on the damaged lines.

However he said they are hoping to restore power by the end of today.
