A team from the Ministry of Finance today visited the Korovou and Naboro prisons to see some of the progress made, and access some of the capital projects ahead of 2010 National budget consultations.
The team was led by Finance Deputy Secretary for Budget, Asinate Mua-lau-lau.
Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Auta Moceisuva said they wanted to show the ministry what future developments that they are hoping to carry out.
Moceisuva said the Prisons Department received $12 million for this year and they are expected to ask for more funds in their 2010 budget submission.
Meanwhile, a visit was made to hangmen's cell in Korovou Prison which was closed down in 1967.
Korovou prison currently has 158 inmates which has capacity of 267 prisoners.
