The question, of what went wrong to Fiji’s open rugby game plan is now being asked by many today.

For Fiji it was déjà vu against England losing 21-14 in quarterfinals with Wales adding further misery for fans as they demolished Fiji 48-nil in the Plate Final.

A lot of soul searching will now have to be done by Coach Alifereti Dere and Assistant Etuate Waqa after a drop in performance in the last two tournaments.

This morning’s loss to Wales is the worst defeat ever for a Fiji team in the 13 year history of the IRB 7s series.

Looking at the current IRB 7s table standings, New Zealand and now joint leader with Fiji on 51 points, followed by South Africa with 48 points and England with 47 points.

The Wellington 7s in February is the next stop for the World Series with Fiji being pooled with Argentina, Tonga and Wales.
