Team Fiji won five gold medals in the Pacific Games last night.

The Fiji Karate team won three gold medals.

Naomi Bakani won gold in the 68kg women’s Individual Kumite while Tevita Tamanigaunatawamudu won gold in the 69kg men’s Individual Kumite.

The women’s kata team won gold while the men’s kata team settled for silver.

Naomi Bakani also took silver in the women’s kata individual event while Anthony Yam took silver in the men’s kata event.

In athletics, Fiji’s Leslie Copeland won gold in the men’s javelin with a 70.31 metres throw.

In women’s shot put, Milika Tuivanuvou won gold with a throw of 14.15 metres.

Pacific Sprint King, Banuve Tabakaucoro has qualified for the men’s 100m semifinals after clocking the fastest time during the heats.

Tabakaucoro clocked a time of 10.50secs while PNG’s Kupun Wisil clocked the second fastest time of 10.68 seconds.

Fiji’s Francis Kirikirkula and Albert Miller also qualified for the semifinals.

The men’s semifinal is at 6.45 tonight while the 100 metres final starts at 9.30 tonight.

In the women’s 100m heats, Fiji’s Younis Bese has qualified for the semifinals after clocking the second fastest time of 12.10 seconds.

Favourite Toea Wisil of PNG clocked the fastest time of 12.08 seconds during the heats. Heleina Young and Sisilia Seavula have also qualified for the 100m women’s semifinals.

The semifinals are at 6.30 tonight while the women’s 100 metres final is at 9.50 tonight.

Fiji’s Ashneel Nand settled for bronze in the 3,000m Steeplechase.

The 800 metres women’s final is at 7.50 tonight while the men’s 800m final is at 8.10pm. 

Meanwhile, the Fiji Bodybuilding team failed to win a gold medal last night.

Maryann Moss settled for silver in the women’s under 55kg catyegory while Haifa Work finished third in the over 55kg category.

In Hockey, the men’s team won their second match beating Vanuatu 17-3 last night.

They will play Tonga at 6 tonight.

The women’s hockey team hammered Tonga 30-1.

They play PNG at 4.30pm today.

The Fiji Pearls also started their campaign on a high after thrashing Vanuatu 100-15 last night. 

Looking at the Fijivillage Pacific Games medal tally, Papua New Guinea is leading with 42 gold, 30 silver and 31 bronze. New Caledonia is in second place with 28 gold, 28 silver and 22 bronze while Tahiti is in third place with 23 gold, 17 silver and 17 bronze.

Team Fiji is in now in fourth place with 19 gold, 27 silver and 21 bronze.
