With 22 days to go for the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea, Team Fiji is running against time to get an additional $120,000 to make their $2.1 million budget.
FASANOC President Joseph Rodan Senior is now hoping that some possible options can be explored by the government like looking at the amount of departure tax to be paid by all the Team Fiji athletes which amounts to more than $80,000.
FASANOC received another $300,000 from the government to assist Team Fiji for the Pacific Games next month.
This takes the total government contribution to Team Fiji from the Fiji Sports Commission to $600,000.
Rodan has welcomed the assistance from the government and says they have submitted a justification for an increase in funding allocated to them.
Rodan adds that they will continue to conduct fundraising and public appeals to achieve their target.
He also assures the people of Fiji that they will give their best shot in PNG.
FASANOC announced that the volleyball men’s and women’s teams will not participate in the games after they failed to pay their levies.
Meanwhile Sports Minister Laisenia Tuitubou says they have committed their funds on youth programmes and rural grounds.
He says they just gave another $300,000 and it is quite difficult to get more funds.
The Pacific Games will be held from the 4th to the 18th of next month in PNG.
