Team Fiji has broken two of the four records at the 8th Pacific Mini Games that are currently being held in the Cook Islands.

Yesterday, University of the South Pacific student, Leslie Copeland broke a 12-year record set by his mentor James Goulding in a throw of 73.58m, set way back in 1997.

The new record set by Copeland stands at 74.98m, and he is aiming for more achievements, his ultimate goal is to represent Fiji in the 2012 Olympic Games.

The other record was broken by Sprint Queen, Makelesi Bulikiobo in the 100m, after setting a new time of 11.97sec.

Sprint King Niko Verekauta won his second gold medal in the 400m yesterday and is aiming for his third in the 200m final this afternoon.

Verekauta came home first in a time of 48.83 seconds while team mate Osea Dasalusalu won the bronze medal.

The highlight in the 200m yesterday was in the heats where Banuve Tabakaucoro recorded the fastest time of 22.10 seconds while Tevita Nalovo's time stood at 22.28 seconds.

Niko Verekauta did not have any trouble winning his heat in a time of 22.53 seconds. The 200m finals will be held this afternoon.

- In the 400 metre womens final - Makelesi Bulikiobo won Gold, Silver went to Paulini Korowaqa and Bronze to Makitalena Lokolokobuka.

- In the mens long jump Fiji won another bronze medal to Ernest Petueli.

- In the 1500 metres final Varasiko Tomeru won bronze.

Meanwhile in canoeing Fiji qualified in all of the 6 finals but they only managed a silver and two bronze medals. Natalia Evans won silver in the V-1 Woman 500 metre final while Mario Mausio finished on 3rd place in the V-1 Men 500 metre final.

Fiji's second bronze medal came in the V-6 Men 500 metre final.

The netball team qualified to the semifinal after beating Tokelau 57-27.

In other results the womens touch rugby team lost to Niue 6-5 but the men side came away with a close 5-4 win.

Looking at the medal tally Fiji still leads with 8 Gold, 4 Silver and 8 Bronze, Tahiti is second on 7 Gold 6 Silver and 2 Bronze and New Caledonia is third on 5 Gold, 7 Silver and 5 Bronze.

Looking at today's competition:

- Currently underway is Touch Rugby where the Men's Fiji Team is meeting Niue, the Fiji Squash Ladie and Mens team is playing New Caledonia and at 1pm, Fiji take on the Cook Islands in the Netball semi-finals that kicks off at 1pm.

- The finals of the 200m will be held at 4pm.
